Where to Find J&J – Summer/Fall 2022

After a short break from conferences, we look forward and plan our suite of Summer and Fall meetings. After the success of the Spring meetings, we cannot wait to see what this slate has in store for us. Check out where J&J will be later this year:

ASAE Annual Meeting & Exposition

20-23 August

Nashville, TN

Official ASAE Meeting Site

We’re thrilled to make the trip to the legendary music city, Nashville, Tennessee, for the ASAE annual meeting and exposition, which is our first stop on the back half of the 2022 docket. We’ll be exhibiting alongside colleagues from Madgex and eJournalPress at Booth #1101. But we’re far from the only attraction!

This year’s speakers and catalysts are taking the main stage to speak about topics ranging from improving your public speaking and wrangling non-profits out of tailspins to tackling world-wide issues such as global diversity, equity, and inclusion. We cannot wait for the amazing people at ASAE to kick off our next set of meetings with a bang!

ALPSP Annual conference and Awards 2022

14-16 September

Manchester, United Kingdom

Official ALPSP Conference Site

Our second stop this fall lands us in historic Manchester, UK, as we look to make new contacts and reconnect with our acquaintances overseas. This year’s keynote speaker, Peter Cunliffe-Jones, speaks to one of the largest obstacles in scholarly publishing: a lack of access to accurate information and an increase in misinformation. In addition to an amazing lineup of additional speakers and topical sessions from transparency to neurodiversity, ALPSP is celebrating their 50-year anniversary! We’re looking forward to this bash across the pond as we progress through the second half of our meetings tour.

OASPA Online Conference on Open Access Scholarly Publishing 2022

20-22 September

Virtual Meeting

Official OASPA Conference Site

Next, we return home to virtually participate in the OASPA Online Conference. This year’s theme is everything Open Access, from the ethical questions and considerations of OA and common good to value-based publishing models that can help re-imagine equitable funding and publishing. Special registration discounts are also available if you plan on attending; check out their site to see if you can apply for a large discount on this event! The Preliminary Program is also available featuring keynotes like “Embracing Real-World Complexity On The Road To Open Scholarship” with Amy Brand and “Digital Bundles: Creating a new space for Indigenous Knowledge that moves Beyond Open Access Publishing” with Jennifer Wemigwans.

SSP Seminar: New Directions in Scholarly Publishing

21-22 September

Washington, DC and Virtual

Official SSP Seminar Site

Occurring simultaneously with the OASPA meeting is one of the newest offerings from SSP, the 2022 Seminar: New Directions in Scholarly Publishing. We’ll be headed to our nation’s capital to hear remarks from industry’s leaders such as keynote speaker Rajendrani (Raj) Mukhopadhyay, Ph.D., Vice President, Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Respect, American Chemical Society. This two-day seminar will be looking at the new technologies, policies, global movements, and negotiations that are paving the road for scholarly publishing. Welcome to the future, everyone!

STM Conference & Dinner

17-18 October

Frankfurt, Germany

Official STM Site

Next is a meeting in mid-October as STM holds their first conference of 2022 and boasts an “unrivaled” networking space for strategic thinkers, policy makers, decision makers, and key drivers in the industry. Leading the conference is keynote speaker Peter Gluckman, President of the International Science Council, and so many more accolades he deserves his own article. This conference is especially aimed at a global audience, and we’re humbled to attend once again!

Frankfurt Buchmesse

19-23 October

Frankfurt, Germany

Official Frankfurt Buchmesse Site

Following up will be the world’s largest bookfair, Frankfurt Buchmesse, by far the largest event in publishing and probably the eighth wonder of the publishing world. This year, the Frankfurt Book Fair’s special topic is “Translate. Transfer. Transform.” Conference planners seek to highlight the worldly mission of science, education, and communication. Look forward to the cultural, literary, and creative industry that the Guest of Honor, Spain, will be bringing this year. Frankfurt Buchmesse highlights Spanish creatives and their diverse languages, which convene under the motto, “Creatividad Desbordante!”

Charleston Conference 2022

Charleston Conference

1-4 November

Charleston, SC

Official Charleston Conference Site

Our final stop before the weather turns is beautiful Charleston, South Carolina for the aptly named Charleston Conference. Last year’s hybrid conference theme was “On the Road Again,” and this year Charleston will continue the momentum of amazing in-person events and offer exclusive online-only events two weeks later. The conference will focus on the world-wide challenges and necessary world-wide solutions in the keynote, “We Will Get There, Together,” presented by Buhle Mbambo-Thata, a University Librarian at the National University of Lesotho.

We truly can’t wait to make the second half of this year just as special as the first as we travel internationally and also engage from the safety of our homes. Keep in touch because at the end of the year, we will be wrapping up some of our favorite moments from 2022 thanks to all the amazing experiences these organizations make possible. If you are attending any of these meetings and want to make sure you run into us, reach out on Twitter @jjeditorial, Facebook: J&J Editorial, LinkedIn: J&J Editorial, or our email: [email protected].

We will see you out on the road. Travel safe!
